Holiday Weekend Accidents

CarCrash12

Memorial Day weekend is one of the year’s biggest weekends for road trips. Therefore, the highways of New Jersey are always packed with cars, whether people are heading north to New York and points beyond it, south to Philadelphia, or east to beach destinations in New Jersey. Almost every year on Memorial Day weekend, there are enough accidents on New Jersey’s major highways to slow down holiday travel, even though many of these accidents do not result in severe injuries. If you get injured in a car accident in New Jersey, the courts of New Jersey have jurisdiction over any lawsuits that arise from the accident, even if you are from out of state, and so is the other driver. If you accept an insurance settlement for your accident-related losses, you lose the right to collect further compensation through a lawsuit, so you should always check with a lawyer to see if the settlement amount the insurance company is sufficient, and if it is not, your lawyer may be able to negotiate a better settlement. If you got injured during holiday weekend travel in New Jersey, contact an auto accident lawyer.

Van Passenger Dies After Single Vehicle Accident on the New Jersey Turnpike

At about 8:00 on Friday evening, a Ford van was driving in the northbound lanes of the New Jersey Turnpike. For reasons that are still under investigation, the driver lost control of the van as it approached mile post 75.5 in Middlesex County. The van struck the guardrail beside the road and overturned. The front seat passenger, a 28-year-old man from Yonkers, New York, was ejected from the van. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. None of the other occupants of the van were ejected, and none of them were injured seriously enough to require hospitalization. The News 12 website did not indicate whether the victim or any of the other van occupants were wearing seatbelts.

Scooter Rider Dies After Collision With Car on Monmouth County Highway

Late in the afternoon on Memorial Day, a man was riding a 2022 Buddy Kick 125 scooter in Wall Township. He was attempting to make a left turn at the intersection of Route 35 and Belmar Boulevard, when a Kia traveling south on Route 35 struck his scooter and knocked him into the road. The driver remained at the scene of the accident, and first responders arrived soon after. The driver did not seem to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and as of the time that news reports about the accident were published, it was still unclear why she was unable to stop in time to avoid hitting the scooter.

The scooter rider was transported to a nearby hospital, but he died of his injuries soon after arriving at the hospital. The NJ news website did not publish his name or say where he lived, but it said that he was 47 years old.
