Indoor Ski Park Accidents

What better way to beat the summer heat in New Jersey than by heading indoors for winter sports? Going ice skating on the lake in the winter is not for the faint of heart, even when it appears to be frozen solid; it is better to go to the ice-skating rink, skate until you are ready for some hot chocolate, visit the snack bar, and then remove your skates and your jacket and face the New Jersey summer feeling refreshed. Likewise, if you want to go skiing or snowboarding outdoors in the winter, you must wait for the right weather conditions, and some years, appropriate ski weather is vanishingly rare.
The good news is that New Jersey has indoor facilities for skiing and snowboarding, where you can visit any time of year, whenever the urge to chill hits you. To find out more about your legal rights after getting injured in a preventable accident at an indoor ski park, contact a New Jersey premises liability lawyer.
Ski Parks and Premises Liability
At outdoor skiing areas, you are at the mercy of Mother Nature. Injuries can happen because of rickety, slippery chair lifts. Skiers can collide with trees or with other skiers simply because of the shape of the mountain and the laws of physics. You can get too much or too little momentum if the snow is not just right. Meanwhile, indoor ski parks are the result of years of meticulous design and construction by architects and engineers. The goal is all the fun with a small fraction of the risk of outdoor skiing and snowboarding.
Meanwhile, the laws that protect guests at indoor ski parks are the same that protect guests at outdoor slopes at ski resorts. In other words, if you paid to ski or snowboard, you are a business invitee. This means that you have the full protection of premises liability laws. The operator of the ski area, be it indoors or outdoors, has a legal responsibility to keep the premises in safe condition or, when this is not possible, to prevent people from skiing or snowboarding there. If you live out of state and get injured in New Jersey, you must file your premises liability claim in New Jersey.
