Parking Lot Accidents

The factors that lead to the most destructive accidents on highways and city streets are not present in parking lots. Many traffic fatalities occur when drivers speed at dozens of miles of hour above the speed limit, T-boning other cars in intersections or losing control and veering across the center lanes in oncoming traffic, or even driving off the road and crashing into a tree or concrete wall. In parking lots, there is no room to drive fast, so the accidents usually happen at low speed. They can still cause serious injuries, though, especially when a car strikes a pedestrian. Parking lots are a common location for collisions between a car and a pedestrian, especially since pedestrians and cars are naturally close to each other in parking lots, and because cars must sometimes maneuver at unusual angles, and the drivers might not see the pedestrians nearby. If you got hit by a car while you were walking in a crowded parking lot in New Jersey, contact a South Jersey auto accident lawyer.
Octogenarian Strikes Two Pedestrians in Sam’s Club Parking Lot
In August 2025, an 82-year-old woman was leaving the Sam’s Club in Pleasantville. As she was backing out of the parking space, she lost control of the car. She struck two pedestrians, a man in his 60s and a woman in her 70s. Their injuries were not life-threatening. The driver was not injured, and no one received criminal charges because of the incident.
Pedestrian Pinned Under Vehicle in ShopRite Parking Lot
During the same summer, several weeks earlier, a more devastating accident occurred in another supermarket parking lot in South Jersey. A car struck a pedestrian in the parking lot of the ShopRite in Tom’s River, pinning the pedestrian under the car. The pedestrian suffered severe injuries, including an ear injury that required reconstructive surgery. First responders originally called for a medevac to airlift the injured person to the hospital, but the weather was too inclement for the helicopter to transport the patient safely. Therefore, an ambulance transported the patient to Jersey Shore Medical Center. News reports did not release the name or age or the injured person or the driver. They also did not indicate whether anyone received criminal charges, or whether there were any personal injury lawsuits arising from the incident.
